Edit Away
Now that I had taken matters into my own hands, I knew I now had to find an editor. I started to search for one, not really knowing where to start except to type in the search engine “editor”. There are a lot of companies out there that will edit for you, but they charge an arm and a leg for their skill.
I then remembered reading about a company, Fiverr, that is a freelance services marketplace, so I decided to try it, and I must say, I was impressed. There are so many professionals to choose from. When I typed in editor, a huge selection came up, but then I had to find one that fit my needs. Some edit cookbooks, some only do non-fiction, some edit children’s books, some have a limit of how many pages they will edit, etc.
I decided on an editor that I thought would be a good fit, and she did end up being perfect for the job. You are given a quote for the level of service you would like, and you are given a date that the job will be completed. I received my edited version in just a few days along with a clean copy. You can e-mail the freelancer with questions or concerns, and you have time to look over their work to decide if you are satisfied with their work or not before you pay them.
With my first step complete, I now had to format the content for my book, and that became a rather long exercise…
