Imagine being sound asleep only to be awakened by a very loud, scary, and obnoxious “Knock” sound. So loud, it sounds like someone’s fist is smashing into the wall then echoing. Aside from the sound, you begin to experience other strange things. Clothes are missing, feet are shuffling across your room during the night, piles of fingernails are found on your couch and sometimes one is found in your coffee or drink, with cameras picking up shadows of figures during the night.
Two years of strangeness until Mom’s ashes are given to my brother to cast into a lake to reunite with my dad. But instead, he decides to keep them.
We no longer have the loud knocks, and only experience on occasion things dropping loudly but when we look to see what it was, nothing is out of place, and we still have the occasional finger nails left behind. We do have some ashes in our garden still, so I don’t think she has left us entirely, but strange things began to happen for my brother and his wife after they took possession.
All of this prompted me to write a children’s fictional ghost tale titled The Girl in the Wall: Knock-Knock, is based loosely on what we experienced. It’s a story about Amy and the soft “knock-knock” sound that she begins to hear in her room at night. After exhausting all possible normal explanations of what it could be with the help of her grandparents, she and her friends Kat and Ben begin to investigate on their own WHO it might be.
